Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a difference between the American and the French Brittany? The most obvious characteristic is the black nose. The French Brittany has the black characteristics as opposed to the pink of the American Brittany. This characteristic makes them automatically disqualified to be show dogs by AKC standards.

What about the hunting abilities?

The French Brittany's are known for their 'natural retrieving instinct'. They are born retrievers and pointers they also love water (at least ours do). They also do not range out as far as the American Brittany. Basically you won't need a horse to keep up with them

What about temperament?

We loved our American's as much as our French's and the temperament was comparable to each other. However we have found that the French Brittany is a little more sensitive and therefore easily trainable. They are not what you would call 'hyper' unless you have just let them in and they are happy to see you. They will calm down! And they LOVE to snuggle!

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
